Frontier was in an unfortunate position where a lot of fans had already dropped the show during Tamers, which resulted in the franchise going dormant for a few years after Frontier. Adventure was the first installment, the breakout hit, this that and the other. To clarify, I wasn't defining "what's Digimon and what's not", I was just stating the positions of Adventure and Frontier as they are generally perceived. Even the Pokemon fandom is a bit like this, where you have the so-called "Genwunners" complaining that "it's not the same anymore" in spite of minimal changes to the core gameplay after 20 years. Meaning that, regardless of the quality of this or later seasons, the first version of a thing will generally be the one that's best remembered because that's when it first appeared and became a breakout hit. It's just a classic case of " First Installment Wins" as TV Tropes would put it. Again, Adventure is the Generation 1 or Mighty Morphin of Digimon. To be fair, every fandom is kinda like that.
